| University Legislation The use of and access to information technology services which are provided by the University is governed by University Legislation. The primary University Rules and Orders relating to IT services are:
IT Security The University has a broadly-based set of Information Technology (IT) security policies and strategies. IT Security is the process that ensures the availability, integrity and confidentiality of IT systems. Information Technology Security and procedures for implementation of the IT security policy include monitoring and reporting of security incidents. Network Policies Access: The University has policies on network access to ensure that the integrity
of the network and the data carried on the network is maintained. It is
also important that users have fair and equitable access to networked
services according to their work and study requirements.
Infrastructure: Network infrastructure consists of UTP (structured cabling) to the desktop, the fibre optic cable backbone, and all intelligent devices (concentrators, switches and routers) which drive the network.
Electronic Communication The University has procedures for use of University-wide lists to send electronic mail to staff, students and affiliates of the University. Web Publishing Guidelines The web is an important tool for the communication of information inside and outside of the University. Web publishing guidelines provide guidance to web publishers in the representation of the University through this medium. User Guides and Privacy The University recognises the importance of respecting the privacy and intellectual property of staff and students. Procedures have been established to guide IT staff and users in their maintenance and use of computing equipment and networked services. Mass Data Storage Access The University has a large data storage facility to support supercomputer users and other types of data intensive projects. |
