ANU Reverse Proxy Service

The Division of Information provides a reverse proxy service to allow authenticated ANU users to access services restricted to ANU IP addresses from outside the University network, including from any internet service provider (ISP).

Via the reverse proxy, access is allowed to internal ANU web sites and to selected electronic journals and databases to which the Library is subscribed. A list of the ANU web servers and external journal and database addresses is maintained by the Division of Information with input from other relevant areas. The reverse proxy uses this list to rewrite web pages referencing these sites such that the request appears to emanate from an internal ANU IP address, that of the reverse proxy server itself.

The reverse proxy is accessible at the URL http://virtual.anu.edu.au. Instructions on how to proceed are given at this address. User authentication is by means of standard University Identifiers (as defined for employees, students and affiliates) and passwords held in the Online Account Management System (OLAMS).
